Fostering is something that our rescue group will always need greatly. We are a very high volume rescue group with calls daily of dogs in need of help immediately, and often have to turn people away because we just don't have the space. When fostering a dog for OKC Rotts-N-Notts Rescue, the commitment is as follows:
The foster family is responsible for providing the foster dog high quality food, we will provide a list of foods we recommend.
The foster dog must be allowed to live inside the house as a part of the family.
The rescue group is responsible for all medical care (spaying/neutering, vaccinating, HW test, etc.) provided for the dog
The rescue group ultimately decides who the forever home of the dog will be, however, we always take opinions on placements given by the foster families very seriously
The other specific requirements all depend on the dog. Some dogs should not be crated and others do better with crates. We look at our dogs as individuals, and they all have different needs, so the specifics would all depend on the dog/dogs being fostered.
What is most important to us is that we have a safe and loving temporary home for dogs that have no other chance. Fostering dogs is an extremely important part of rescue and we could not do it without our foster homes. Please, if you feel as though you may have room in your heart, help by fostering.
Fostering is a wonderful way to help rescued dogs, but can also be great for other reasons. Many families enjoy fostering because they may not be ready for a dog, or often times people like to show their children the level of commitment needed to own a dog, and see if they are ready in their lives to own a dog, and many people would like the companionship but are not sure they can make the lifetime commitment.
Fostering dogs, although sometimes it can be difficult to let go when it is time for the dog to go to a loving forever home, it is an unbelievably rewarding feeling. It is a true way to save a dogs life. If you have the room in your heart to help save a life please apply to foster a dog. The application part is very important so that we can fit you with a dog that works well with your lifestyle and environment.
