A Prayer For Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put to death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

Albert Schweitzer 1875 - 1965

REX
A TRIBUTE TO REX. I began a love affair that would last 11 wonderful years in February of 1994. I looked at a litter of absolutely adorable little teddy bears. The kids pronounced one in particular as the ugly one & couldn’t imagine anyone wanting him. Thus our life together began. I still to this day wonder if they were in fact trying to talk me OUT of this particular dog. He was one of the most magnificent creatures I’ve ever known. It took so little to please my boy. He delighted in simply walking with me, he was content to walk at my pace. Just being by my side was the important thing. Oh, how he loved to lean & have his entire body scratched!!! Not content to just have his ears scratched, but a full body massage. The more I kneaded him, the more he leaned. This was true doggie nirvana. He began to get gray in the muzzle, a little cloudy in his eyes, a bit slower in his step. I knew deep down Father Time was slowly creeping up on my best friend. What would I do without him? February 2005 came entirely too soon. We played that morning, I said good-bye to him in the afternoon. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Rex-- what I’m doing now is for you. Every dog, every person should know the joy we shared just being in each other’s company. Hopefully I can help a few find that. Rest In Peace my friend.

Hummer
Hummer: There are so many things I can say about you...all of which I have said TO you. You were, by far, the best dog I have ever had the privilege of knowing, loving and taking care of. You came to us in a ball of fur with lots of love to give. I can tell you that whenever I would think about the perfect Rottie, you were just the type that came to mind. I know in my heart that you are my doggie soul mate. There will never be another one like you. But the time came for you to go on to the Rainbow Bridge. My heart breaks from missing you but I know that you are no longer in pain and you are playing with lots and lots of other great dogs. Just know that I love you so very much and think of you every day. Love, Mom.

Joe
Little did we know on that hot, July day in the summer of 2008 that so many lives would be changed forever. We met you a sickly, scrawy mess of a dog still possessing an unmatched spirit of love and acceptance. That one being can endure so much, yet still love is nothing short of a miracle. Whether for a day, a week, a month or a year, everyone who knew you was touched by your pure, innocent, unconditional sweetness. The world was a better place for the time we had you. The crater left by your absence will never be filled, but the gift we’ve gained by having you in our lives will be with us forever. Godspeed Sweet Joe Joe

Stryker
On Thur. Sept 17, 2009 Stryker earned his angel wings. Everyone who met you loved you, you will always remain in our hearts. "He was a special and extraordinary dog... but aren't they all? He will be missed and long remembered. Namu Amida Butsu."

Molly
Our dear sweet Molly, you left us too soon. You gave us kisses, took your treat and laid down for you midmorning nap and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge quietly in your sleep. Did you think we would not miss you? No matter what, you only wanted to brighten everyone’s day. You grabbed our hearts and hold them still. We will miss your wiggle giggles, kisses, and bear dance that you would greet us with. Your patience with all the new critters, chickens trying to steal your watermelon and your enthusiasm you brought to our lives has brought us joy that cannot be expressed. Every time we take our horse out for a ride, work cattle, or use a flashlight you will be here with us. We love you our sweet little Molly. Your loving family, Gayle, Justin & Marcos & your sister Toto.
