  WELCOME TO OKC AREA ROTTS-N-NOTTS

We’re a very small group of Rottweiler lovers dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of members of our favorite breed who have fallen on hard times. Although the Rottweiler is our first love, if resources allow, we will not turn down any dog in need regardless of breed. Since we are small, we are very selective about the pets we choose to help on their way to a new home. We take great pride in our ability to select only the most temperamentally sound pets so they and you can enjoy years of love and companionship together. We want our prospective and adoptive families to trust that we have worked hard to find them the most suitable pet to join their family. If you see a pet on our website you would like to know more about, please contact us about that pet. If you haven’t found “THE ONE” for you, we would welcome the opportunity to be a part of your search for your next family companion. We also strive to keep our community informed on humane education, training and loving treatment of our companions.  Thanks for visiting and come back often!!!

Kaiser
I am a Rottweiler. My substantial frame yields strength and endurance. And my Tranquil, self-assured and spirited temperament makes me a devoted companion. Although I have an innate desire to protect my home and family, there's room for fun and games.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING??

The process is simple. A short application is filled out. You can fill it out online or e-mail us and we'll send you one. Upon receipt of the application, we will first contact you to acknowledge your application and let you know which one of our volunteers will be working with you to help you find the perfect companion. Your placement volunteer will call you for a brief phone interview and will also contact your veterinarian. The next step will be to schedule a home visit. All of this is to ensure that we make the best matches possible for our pets and families searching for a lifetime companion.

HELP SAVE A ROTTIE--BE A FOSTER HOME

A foster home is a temporary family - a home environment for rescue animals. For rescues without a shelter facility, as most are, foster homes are the only way we can keep pet animals until they are permanently placed. Many rescued animals have never experienced living inside a house, having been relegated to a solitary life in a fenced yard, living at the end of a chain, or dumped as puppies or kittens. Foster families help these animals transition from fending for themselves to enjoying being a companion. To foster a pet, all that's required is a big heart, interaction with members of the household, and a cozy place inside to sleep at night. To further ensure dogs are ready for their new homes, we encourage foster families to attend our obedience classes at no charge. If you aren't ready to make a lifetime commitment to a pet, but would enjoy making a difference in the life of one, contact us about fostering!

OTHER WAYS TO HELP

Santa Hope

One way to help is with your time. We can always use volunteers to help with events such as the gift wrapping

fund raiser at Barnes & Noble bookstore during the Christmas season. Pictured here is Certified Therapy Rottie

Hope, working the crowd for us. She did a fabulous job helping us raise money to help the Rotties who aren't as fortunate (YET!!!) as she is.

From time to time, we meet some wonderful mixed-breed dogs that are in need of loving homes. Though we focus most of our energies on the Rottweiler breed, when room allows we won't say no to any dog who we feel we can help. Such is the case with Serena, Ollie G. and Whoopie . All three of these dogs would make a wonderful addition to someone's family. Click on their pictures to learn more about each of them.

WHY MIXED BREEDS MAKE SUCH WONDERFUL PETS

Each breed is descended from a limited number of dogs. Genetically this means that, while all purebreds do not have significant health problems, they are predisposed to a range of hereditary and congenital diseases, including skin and eye conditions, allergies, various cancers, cardiac problems, and abnormalities in the kidneys and other organs.

Mixed breeds, on the other hand, have something called hybrid vigor.  As a result, you often get a healthier animal. Simply put, mixed-breed dogs are, in general, healthier than their purebred cousins and typically require fewer visits to the veterinarian.

Mixed breeds are often more temperamentally sound than purebreds. Character and behavioral traits do manifest in mixed-breed dogs, but in a diluted form.

There is a final, compelling reason to adopt a mutt rather than a purebred. Our shelters are filled with primarily mixed-breed dogs in need of good homes. With the tragedy of pet overpopulation still far from being solved, we encourage everyone to adopt a shelter pet and save a life from being destroyed, simply because there are not enough loving homes.

In the Time magazine article cited above, syndicated animal columnist Mike Capuzzo noted, "Mutts are the Hondas of the dog world. They're cheap, reliable and what nature intended in the first place."
